Women like her, Gracie Burns and Lucille Ball paved the way for women to be accepted as comedians.

I remember sitting on our living room floor in front of our black and white TV set, watching the moonwalk.  One of the gas station chains (Union 76?) had a lunar module poster you could punch out and put together-I must've done over 20!

I read a few years ago that Armstrong had actually said "One small step for a man...", but the "a" was lost in the transmission, so his quote went down as "One small step for man..."

He botched his line. He was a test pilot, not an actor. He didn't like NASA giving him an awkward line to read when he had just performed a difficult procedure that could have gotten him killed in front of billions of people.

Some newspapers quoted the "small step for man" line directly with no mention that what Armstrong had said made no sense. Others kindly checked with NASA to find out what the correct line was and printed that instead, again with no mention that it wasn't what Armstrong actually said.

Years later once it was clear the Moon landing hadn't been a "giant leap for mankind" (there were no more trips to the Moon, no plans for Moon bases and all NASA had was a shuttle that could barely reach low orbit), the media finally felt safe to mention that Armstrong messed up his line.

Andy Williams-

"Moon River" will always be associated with him.  I remember watching his Christmas specials when I was growing up.

Alex Karras, who was known as much for his "Mongo" character from "Blazing Saddles" and as the dad on "Webster" as he was for his pro football career.
