Not only is Portland doing great (or decently when the nationals are gone), the attendance has been incredible. The games in Portland account for something like 45% of all league attendance this season.  Shocked

Looks like the Thorns have a nice stadium, the support of the Timbers, a good team, and a city that loves soccer, it's the perfect situation.

At least the Reign FC are turning things around.  They've won 2 in a row after starting 0-9-2.

They don't have direct support from the Timbers -- both teams have the same owner who already knew how to market a soccer team here.

The stadium is also in an ideal location downtown. Other teams are playing in stadiums that aren't easy to get to and a lot of fans are complaining about it.

If you haven't caught it, this is being rebroadcast really early on ESPN2 on Sunday.

SEC storied: Abby Wambach

I missed the first 15 minutes or so, but I thought it was really good.

Sadly my Thorns tanked at the end of the season so the NWSL championship will be in Western New York.

That's too bad because Portland would have easily gotten 20,000 people for the game. There were over 17,000 at the last game of the season.

I am so pissed I have not been able to watch any of the playoffs because comcast doesn't get the new channel Fox Sports 2 (unlike Fox Soccer Channel which I can get and which got the earlier games)! I have dialup so video is not an option-- quite the bummer!!

In honor of you, scowl-- Go Thorns!

Yeah we won the championship and everything. Oh how wonderful that would have been here in Portland.

They had a little to-do at the stadium yesterday at noon. Most of the good players had already taken off to the national team so it wasn't too exciting.
