It
is pretty sad to leave an area after your team wins feeling
upset. I love the fact that they won
but cannot believe the refs. It was the worst officiating
I have ever seen in my whole life. Worse than the Houston
game last year and worse than the LA game on Friday. I
don't see how you can be standing right next to something
going on and not see it. If they let both teams just play
I would be okay but they were just letting Sac play. I
remember looking up and noticing that they had 10 min left
in the second half and the Storm had 7 fouls; Sac 0. 10
min of play and not one foul? Come on. Then it was as if
the refs knew they had messed up so they had to start calling
fouls... 6 in about 4 min on Sac. I just don't get it.
I do feel for refs and I know it's a tough job but this
game was so poorly called even the 6 year olds.... in the
cheap seats could see the fouls they missed.
Okay,
I had to get that out of my system. Other than the terrible,
hideous, ridiculous officiating I would have
to say that this was a great team effort.
I'm not going to shout off stats but only state what
I saw:
They
played as a team... Sue was not shooting that well tonight
but it's a little hard when you have Ruthie
or
Edna on you all the time. They are great defenders.
You could tell right at the beginning that Sue was probably
in a little pain or not up to her usual standards because
she was barely making it down court for defense after
the ball was taken early on. Still... a great pg knows
where
to put the ball to score and she did a great job of
getting
it to who was scoring. I could see AD asking her several
times during time outs if she wanted to come in and
Sue just shook her head. I also feel she had a good defensive
game as well; she was not at her normal speed but she
still had some great stops. I loved where she knocked
the ball
between (I think it was Edna's) legs and Adia picked
it up and ran down court. There were little things
she
did
to really make a difference even if she was not scoring.
I have to say my heart just about stopped when she
went up for a rebound and got it. But all I was thinking
is
that she was going hurt herself.
LJ...
we knew if we gave her time she would just jump out and
have a great
game here soon. She was rebounding
like
crazy. She was all over the place and shot 2 threes!
I think she looked better tonight than I've seen
her in a
very long time! Great hustle! I loved watching her
in this game; she will become the player she wants
to be.
Kamila...
I think Kamila has a sign on her back that says: "FOUL".
The woman steps on the court and the whistle blows.
She did a great job out there defending Yo and just
doing her
normal stuff like using her body as a punching
bag for the opposing team. I always love watching her
play
and
she only seems to get tougher the older she gets.
I
could go on but it would take forever... they all played
as a team... TO's and all. It was a
complete
40 min of
play and they did not let the foul situation
way heavily on them. I would have loved to have seen
less TO's
but sometimes that happens.
I
was happy at halftime to see second chance points were
Storm 18 and Sac 2.
You gotta love
that.
The
worst part of the night (other than the refs); I had
a kid behind me... keep in mind
this is
a kid, he
was looking
at the game card and said: "That's Lisa
Leslie... she is the best player in the WNBA." ACK!
I just about threw up my fries.

Anthem:
I thought my ear drums were gonna bust. Yowza!
Monarchs:
What is missing? Hmmmmm - oh yeah, big Wolters.
How could I have missed her?
Storm:
In the past 2 years does McCulley even have a uniform?
Please, please, please
hurry off of the IR list.
Doppler:
I am so glad you don't have a shaved but like those lil
monkeys. Dude,
get a belt.
Shot
Clock: I didn't mind the breakdown cuz they were playing
some funky music and Simone kept
grooving
to the beat. First her shoulders were moving, then
her
hips, and
then the feet were a tippity tapping. She didn't
even realize what she was doing until the baseline
section
started cheering
for her. She got all embarrassed.
Refs:
First of all - I do know how hard it is to referee -
that said...
they still sucked. Calls
right
in front
of them - not even 5 feet - and they still botch
it. Kamila is standing straight up and down -
PERFECT defense
- and
they call her for a foul. What did she do? Stick
her tummy out or something? Second half the team
fouls
were like
6 - 0 so they make up for it by calling 4 fouls
on the monarchs in a row... all on the same storm
possession.
I guess they like to do things in bunches.
Kamila:
Totally underrated player. She shut down Yo. Even accidentally
knocked her down and
instead
of being
all "yeah
- I kicked yo' booty" she looked all apologetic
towards Yo, tried to make eye contact, and
ended up settling for
a pat on the arm.
LJ:
Major, major, MAJOR props to her. Aside from all of her
filthy blocked
shots, passes,
D, and
the like...
she
kept her head in the game. The last two years
she let opponents beat her by removing herself
mentally
from
the game and
focusing on those "veteran" moves.
Now she takes it, gives back a lil, and when
the other teams look at
her with disgust, anger, or try to engage
her into a T waiting to happen - she walks
away.
Good on ya Lauren!
With LJ playing with that mindset I have
a VERY good feeling about this year.
DeMya
Wanker: Yes, I said "Wanker".
Evil, evil, evil player. She might as well
play
for the
Sporks. She flops, she whines, she trash talks, she fouls
something
fierce, and she gets her way. She had it
out for LJ and at one point looked like she was trying
to rip her arms
off. GrrrARgh!
Tully
and Sandy: I am so happy they are on the team. Tully
got knocked
down something
fierce,
needed to
come out,
but stayed in the game (physically and
mentally) until she could. Even as far
to get upset
over
a call. Sandy
- awesome shots. She racked up nice points
too. We finally got those 3-4 peeps in
double digits
that
we needed.
