Oh
my. Setting plays, hitting the boards, stroking the shots--that
was indeed a championship performance.
The beginning of the game was incredibly physical, Lauren's
banging with Catchings was as aggressive as I've seen her
get in a game. I was also proud to see Simone not backing
down from Nat Williams. I get the feeling Nat and Tamika
generally dish out much more than they take, but our post
players kept them off their game. Kamila was a huge factor.
Indiana
came out tough, but after the first 6:00 or so, they
feel apart slowly but surely. I think they expected
the Stormies to wilt under the pressure, rather than
step it up as they did. After awhile it was just too
late--and
this was long before Catching's injury. The two shot
clock violations in the first half were huge!
Nothing
but love on this team. After the ones were pulled with
5:00 on the clock, they hooted and hollered and
worked the sidelines for the twos. I was particularly
happy to
see this after last Saturday, when it was clear to
me that Sue has little patience for imperfection, and
was
annoyed
with Sun. When Sun flushed that late shot, the bench
went nuts!!!
Sir
Mix a Lot in the house. Doppler parked his ample red
booty in Mix's face. Yes sir, Doppler got
back.
And
speaking of Doppler, Hall of Fame performance tonight.
His best game ever.
Sue
seemed to step it up when going up against Catchings.
Seemed personal.
Just
happened to glance over at Sass during Sue's FTs late
in the first. I read Sassy's dainty
and extended
index
finger to mean "That's Bird's first point." Which
it was.
Sass
had an elegant Joni Mitchell/Veronica Lake blond thing
going on tonight. She looked
simply
mahvelous!
(And BTW,
jezzie, the crown is a good look for you.
I missed that lil' tiara tonight.)
What
was up with Rita Williams letting the ball go by her
and into the backcourt?
Did
she forget
which
team
she was
on? Was there a booger on the ball?
Sonja
tried to shadow Sue down the court, but without too
much intimidation or success.
Who
did she think
she was
guarding, Jackie Stiles?
Quote
of the day: "If you have all six numbers, you've
just won $95,000,000!"
Sun
was able to put down the road map and drive a little
tonight, but never
got much
faster
than 15mph.
She'll
get it eventually. Maybe.
I
take back whatever I said about LJ shooting 3s. Just
nevermind.
Catchings
is a specimen. You've got to see her in person, she's
remarkable.
Kamila
had another stalwart performance. She is the team's
keel, always
steady. Does she
look more
bulked
in the
upper body to anyone else?
That
was as dominating a performance as I've seen
the Storm play,
against a team
that
was really
trying hard,
too.
At .500 and climbing, baby!

Beancounter
and her husband got their seats upgraded and were escorted
to the courtside couch by the
evil Doppler, who proceded to dump out their popcorn. Ever
the gracious sport, beancounter promptly put the empty
bucket on her head, and wore it for the rest of the first
half.
Sir
Mix-a-Lot is cool. And can we get those three singers
to just rotate the anthem between them so we
don't have
to be subjected to ear pain for the rest of the season?
It
was great to see Lassiter have a good game. Was great
to see Henning back at the Key. And great to see
Catchings
come back in the second half from what looked like
a horrible ankle sprain.
Simone
never stops shakin. She shimmys during warm ups. She
shimmys while the coaches
are talking during
a time
out. She was shimmying - OK, full-on dancing - while
the Storm was waiting on the court for the Fever
to get back.
(they were huddled, consoling each other for being
behind us by 29 at that point). Simone even shook
it with the
dance team before heading off the court and into
the locker room after the game. Ya gotta love her.
Kate
Paye was at the game.
Howard
Schultz was at the game. Funny how he only shows up when
we're on TV.
It
kills me to see Danielle McCulley rotting away on the
bench. Especially when Burras can
barely get
off
the ground or run up the court. Please, what
does it take to
allow this woman to play ball for us??
After
four years, they have finally changed the music at
Key Arena. And it's hella good!
Perhaps
the best thing about tonight's game: the officiating
didn't suck! In
fact,
it was
decent! Can't remember when
the last time was that this happened, but
I'm sooo grateful.
