New Socks
Alas......
What a wonderful night it was last night. We didnt win, but
we didnt get creamed either (although there were a coupla
times we had a "glazed" look).
Doing
the game with Fans like Sass, Jezzie, Jezzie's Parents, Swooooops
and Swooopsie Bro made me a much much bigger fan that I already
was. Not just of the Storm, but for the other 12 teams in
the league.
So,
with out much further adieu, here is the report from the Sock
Drawer:
When
Mac (The Mr. Sock) and I got to Staples they were just hanging
the balloon rainbows in front. The temptation to run around
with a lighter and let those babies fly was tempting. We resisited.
We
met up with the infamous Sass and Jezzie and Jezzie's parents,
who may have not been famous before this night, but they established
a special place in the Socks' heart. What great people. Way
to recruit em Jezzie.
We
were all standing there talking when StorminCalif (Swoooptastic)
and her bro were standing virtually right next to us. Who
knew!! Swooops girl, you are quite funny. You had us on the
giggle quite a few times. Your little bro is a great sport.
He will go down the the Storm Fan hall of fame for being one
of the first ones to don the rain garb with us.
Jezzie,
thanks again for hookin us up with some Storm stuff that we
obviously cant get anywhere else cept the Key. I totally jonesed
when you started pulling all that stuff out of the bag. Best
part though was when Mac came back from taking the backpack
to the car and he was sporting his brand new Kamila T-shirt.
He had a HUGE smile on his face. He was so proud!!
Dinner
was pretty good, I guess. Beware of the grass covered fries.
After
Sass, Swoops & Jezzie's mom did the team effort thing
for the bathroom run in the resturant, I decided I had to
go. There was a line like 15 deep and it was noisey. About
30 seconds after I went into the stall it got deathly silent
in the bathroom. When I came out it was completly empty. I
stood in place. Every scenario of every scary "in the
bathroom alone, someone is gonna get killed" movie ran
through my head. I moved my foot to see if I was in slo-mo
(thats what happens before the shooting starts) I tried to
think of what color my green jersey would be once I bled through.
Ok, so maybe I was a bit paranoid, but COME ON! 15 people
in line and I was only in there for 2 mins tops. OH NEVER
MIND. It was funny then.
We
went though the metal detector with no problem. We had all
our rain gear (and one very conspicuiously hidden Diva Weave)
in a bag which the lady checking bags decided she needed to
go through with a fine tooth comb. Lucky for us and Sass (who
took a shine to the Diva Weave) she didnt find it. More on
the weave later.
I
felt honored to learn the mojo behind the Spirit Fingers.
Jezzie has some awesome powers. I think alot of it stems from
the pimp ring, but I could be wrong.
I
was happy to share my method that is used on opposing teams
during free throws. Once the group got it down (there was
some lack of true effort a couple of times (sass) and then
one time where the lid wasnt quite sealed all the way (Jezzie)
but after a few trial and errors everyone got it down and
we held them down to 60% I think on FT. See Jezzie and Sass
at the next game for the proper form.
The
music was dope. It was so good at times it was distracting.
Half time they busted out Chaka Kahn. Mr Sock and I got a
groove on at the seats. Who knew that big white boy knew all
the words. Go white boy go white boy go!
Actually
Sass and Mr. Sock were jammin alot to the music together.
This cracked me up. I didnt know what they were singing together
half the time, but they had it going on. When Mr. Sock popped
out with "ring the bell sucka, school's in session"
after a good play by the Storm, Sass jumped out of her seat
and got her groove on. Shake ya ass, chica!
Oh
yeah. I got to witness the chest bumping first hand. It was
pretty cool. If this game aint fun, then what the heck is
the point, ya know.
The
shocked looks on our face when the Sporks were doing the tunnel
thing was priceless. It was supposed to be something resembling
the electric slide, I think but after a second LL was in the
middle of the pack like she wanted them to dance around her.
Some
Sockisms:
If
she is THAT damn "Smooth" shouldnt we be calling
her Ex-Lax?
After a hook shot by the diva- phhhhht, you seen one LA Hooker,
you've seen them all.
SC
announcer: "Now at the line, Delisha Sunshine Milton"
Socks: They couldnt do that with Byears; if they did it would
have sounded like "Now doing a line, Latasha Byears."
When
LL hit the floor once socks asks, "are you sure its beach
night and not country night?... sure looks like a ho-down
to me."
During
a whining session by Milton, The Socks Family busts into a
rendition of "Big Girls Dont Cry."
Sass
calls one play a gift from God, or devine intervention. Socks
explains that God is for sure a Storm fan. Offers proof that
not once is Spark mentioned in the bible, but The Storm is
mentioned quite a few times. Just ask Noah.
There
were plenty of other isims from the whole party, these are
some of the ones that I remember the most. My gut hurt from
laughing the whole game.
Ok,
I made a Diva Weave. It was from a rope that I frayed out
and spray painted black and stuck in a hair scrunchy. Sass
took an instant shine to this one. She had her mojo going
on with it for a while. Jezzie encouraged her to keep her
grip on the weave; it seemed to be working. There were mixed
reactions around us when the Sassy one stood up and twirled
the weave. IF I get up to SeaTown for the
games in Aug, Ill try to make as many as I can. I would love
to see them twirling all over the key.
With
about 8 mins to go in the second half we broke out the rain
gear. It worked like a charm. The Sparks seemed confused by
it. They started making tons of mistakes, and well it inspired
the Storm. It is when they went on their run. Personally,
I would like to see the home crowd adopt this tradition of
putting on their rain gear when the Storm starts coming down
hard.
After
the game, I stood over the tunnel with my slicker still on.
I called out to a couple of players. LJ looked up and gave
me a big ole smile. Simone got a big A grin on her face, shook
her head and said, "girl, you're crazy". Those reactions
made the whole trip go cherry!!!!
At
one time they were playing commercials during a time out.
The one for Pepsi kept going even after play started back
up. It was during a free throw for the Sparks. It just kept
going and going and going. I cracked up.
Some
of the game things I noticed. No Sandy. I mean she was at
the game, but her shot was lost some where over Oregon. Last
game she was the difference. This time they were all over
her like stink on sh*t. They shut her down. If she had even
gotten a lil hot, it might have made a difference.
Tully
never went in. I think she could have made the difference,
at least on D, which there was none.
It
seemed that Anne was doing some weird subbing. It was like
if she didnt like one mistake, boom, out ya came. It was almost
Dunnish.
Nice
to see D-Mac in. She looked a bit out of sorts, but hey, what
do you spect?
At
one point during a time out the coaches were in the middle
of the court, and the team was huddled by the bench. I can
just imagine what the coaches were saying. Im sure it started
with the sentence, WTF.
I
had a blast. I am working my tookus off to try to get up there
in Aug for the LA and MINN games. Keep the fingers twisted.
If you guys up there are half as much fun as Sass, Jezzie
and Swoooops were, I cant wait.
