What
a game! Sue was a bit off, but
TULLY! Seattle fans saw, last night, a bit of what
SF7 and I had the pleasure of seeing for 3 years in Portland. Tully
can step back and shot the 3, at any given time. I
was so pleased for her tonight. All she needed was
some playing time and I knew her offense would come. Sure
enough, AD gave her the minutes and "bam" 14
points. Good onya, mate--awesome way to step up.
Lassi, Lassi, Lassi--monster block girlfriend, monster block.
Dawn Staley: I know you're a great player, we all know that. But,
if you want to be a ref, you need to do 2 things. 1. Retire as a
player first, and 2. Give up your coaching job at Temple. Then you
too can become a mediocre ref in the WNBA. I hate to make the comparison,
but I haven't seen a player try to officiate a game like that, other than She
Who Must Not Be Named. Play the damn game, Dawn, and quit whining. It's
unbecoming to a player of your experience. (As you can tell, Staley's antics
in this respect really bugged me.
Eclair, please thank the croissant for catching Tully.
Okay, Mrs. Admin mentioned, at Mr. Lucky's, a stat that Mr. Admin had come up
with, about our bench play. He'll have to fill ya in on the stat, but Scott--I
think the bench did it.
Our new player, Tonya Massiline, looked pretty good. She's only been with
the team for what, 2 or 3 days? Hey, she scored and didn't look half bad
on defense.
MVP, MVP, MVP!!! Lauren Jackson is a monster! No, Lauren Jackson
is a beast! No, no--Lauren Jackson is a stud! Well actually, she's
all of the above. 23 and 20, what a night Miss Jackson. My God, she
has got to get the MVP. If the league and the sportswriters didn't take
notice of this game, they're all a bunch of flaming idiots (And yes, I did clean
that one up).

The
bench produced in a big way and LJ did it again... only
this time she did it BIG! I honestly cannot
see them giving the MVP to any other player in the league
at this point, but we all know if they don’t win
the Championship she will not get the award.
I
noticed that Sue was in pain early in the game... there
was a time
when she was waiting for LJ to take the ball
out of bounds and Sue was standing in front
of the Storm bench, she bent down and had an awful look on her face and I believe
what she asked AD was to be taken out of the game. This did not happen
though and just about every time she walked to the bench she had the same look.
I’m
thinking that her role last night was that of being on the floor… however
I will say she had some really good defensive moments and on one occasion the
Sting got the ball off Tully and she some how stopped Dawn from getting offense
going, which lead to a TO.
Speaking
of Tully… someone lit a fire under
her last night. With Sue not playing that much, even when on the court, it
was clear they needed the bench
to step up; and they did big time. I was impressed with the 4/5 shooting… though
I don’t know how she does it… she reminds me of a sidearm in
baseball. Hey,
whatever works and puts it in the basket is okay with me.
Lassi… YIKES… she
is a blocking machine at times. That block
was a huge boost for the Storm, who seemed to be dragging even after 4
days off. I
also think that Tully hitting baskets breathed new life into the team and
they seemed to have waked up halfway through the second half.
Some
of my favorite moments: Sue looking up at the scoreboard
at the North end and
seeing how many rebounds LJ had, then running up to her at the
free throw line to tell her; both
of them giggled like little girls and LJ had a big grin on her face while
she
shot her
second free throw… luckily making it.
Sue trying to get the crowd cheering let go of the basketball and one
of the Sting players came after it, she grabbed it and when the buzzer
went
off she
handed the game ball to LJ then hugged her.
The
player intros just get better and better… now Simone not only shimmies
with Doppler but goes into the middle of the Strom Dance Troupe and shimmies
with them. It was SO cute. LJ busted me up when she came out and
body slammed everyone but Burras who jumped back when LJ approached her,
laughed, shook her
head and waved her hand at her so LJ just gave her a high five. I guess
Burras is a little scared of LJ’s slams.

Key
Arena is now surrounded by big concrete balls. They look
like Swiss exercise balls made of cement.
I understand they're to keep possible terrorists from crashing
trucks full of bombs into large buildings like the Key.
Wow, I feel so safe now.
Tully went down and kinda bruised her knees in the first half. At the beginning
of the second half jezzie and I were looking to the right and then looked back
to the left. Out of nowhere there suddenly was our Tully, sitting practically
right beside us on the exercise bike. (that's what they have injured players
do to stay warm, is to ride the bike). But the suddenness of hear appearance
coupled with her intense proximity and her natural goofy expression made for
a very comedic effect. Leighway and Birdjack joined us in giggling.
Ah, the refs. For once Sally Bell wasn't the worst one. It was #20, Theresa
Delham. I let her know how I felt, but perhaps not as well as Lauren did. The
Sting mugged her under the basket and once again it was not called. Lauren stood
up and said to the ref drily, "can I get a f*cking foul?" Damn that
was funny.
You know now Lauren's points always sneak up on you. Same happened with her
rebounds last night. Suddenly they put it on the big screen that she'd just hit
18 and broke the franchise record. The crowd started to buzz and Bird and her
started laughing. Right after that Lauren got another rebound and all of us turned
to each other and were practially yelling, in giddiness, "19!" That
was so sweet.
We stood around processing the game til the ushers asked us to leave.
Before that, Donovan emerged from the locker room and was looking for a group
of tall people - must have been family. Wnbafanforever called to them for her
and they came down. I would bet Donovan doesn't have too many short peeps in
her family.
