Nicole
Ohlde: Where did she come from? This rookie was pulling moves
on LJ and shooting wonderfully. I think we have someone to
worry about here unless we can count on her fouling out every
game.
Katie Smith: What was her first shot? A three pointer off
of a text book screen that our defense couldn't switch on!
Good thing that didn't happen very often.
Teresa Edwards: Every time I thought she's getting on in her
years, she did something incredible.
Michele Van Gorp: She's a mystery around the bench. She seems
unemotional and detached, yet curses and seems to be dying
when her team is losing. She also appears to be in pain just
walking around.
Betty Lennox: You can't say she's not trying her damnest to
get with the program! Her shooting wasn't too good but it's
improving and she was pure hustle getting those rebounds.
I'm not sure if that stumblebum move that sent herself to
the floor was a good sign (she had a clear path to the basket!)
or a bad sign (her feet aren't moving the way she expects).
Michelle Greco: OK she didn't play but she had a perma-grin
on her face all through the warm ups.
Overall the officiating was terribly inconsistant. They called
the game way too tight which really helped us (we were in
the bonus real early in the first half) but then they let
Betty get completely run over in midcourt. When a player is
on his or her knees I'm pretty sure they have position. Maybe
the WNBA had decided those things are incidental contact and
to only call fouls that will give a player an advantage.

The
What the Heck was the ref looking at award definitely goes
to the Amanda Lassiter out of bounds non-call. I don't
often jump up and yell at refs but from my seat, which looks
directly along the boundry line in question, the ball was
fairly and squarely dribbled out of bounds and the ref was
right beside it. From her Space Needle vantage point,
even Anne saw it as out as she was looking over the top of
the ref at the call and she blew her block. In fact
she went off more over this call than she did the other night
when she got T'd and I was thinking "here we go again",
but she was totally correct with her emotions and I think
I really like this new more agro side of our coach.
Sheri Sam started off the game defensively on fire, but overall
Katie Smith played all around her.
Lennox can be good for us, but she still needs lots of work.
She's improved every game, but continues to go for the
flashy play instead of the percentage play way too many times.
The highlight of Bird's game last night was her excellent
shot selection and it's definitely something Lennox can take
onboard.
Something that I've noticed during the 3 games I've seen this
season is a defensive lapse and everytime it happens we are
burnt. It usually starts with our players defending
well in the play, but hits a point were our D doesn't rotate
and collapses to one side leaving 1 sometimes 2 players free
on the 3 point line just waiting to drop a shot on us. This
must have happened at least 4 times last night. Having
seen this everytime during the 3 games, I thought it would
have been addressed, and maybe it has, but the fixit is not
working at the moment and we can't allow this to keep happening.
I bought a rally monkey before the game and have discovered,
along with SF7 ummm SF20 it comes in handy at times. Down
the stretch when we were fighting for the win, everytime our
players would go to the free throw line we would rub the monkey's
head and then switch into spirit fingers. Worked like
a charm everytime and now rally monkey, which I'm yet to name,
will be coming with me to all games. Another advantage
is that Doppler is afraid of it, which can only be good. He's
so afraid that at one point he tried to eat said monkey but
we fought Doppler off and monkey lives to fight another day.
