My
favorite shot belonged to Lennox - the one where she threw
it up and it hit as she hit the floor, and all you could see
were her feet in the air. She is a fun player to watch, and
in her own words, she has a big heart. The biggest!
It is quite something, for someone who has been there since
day one, to see a game like this. The Storm have gone from
being pummeled by the Sparks to winning a game or two a season,
to last night, where it almost seemed like just another win
in the course of business. It's not so unusual or strange
to spank this team anymore. Doesn't it feel great! Welcome
to our House of Horrors, Los Angeles. (see news, May 23)
Since the game had been covered, I will stick to extracurricular
observations:
- The Storm management fixed the scoreboard problem from last
game. Now I would like to make another request: would you
please initiate a punch ticket system for giveaway nights.
(it worked two years ago with the lunchbox giveaway). I was
there at 6:10 and the T-shirts were all gone. I heard from
several people that fans were taking stacks of them. Many
of those folks were the E-bay people, who are going to do
nothing but turn around and sell them for profit. Why are
people allowed to grab stacks of shirts? They should be given
out. Many, many people did not get a shirt last night. That
sucks.
- I would like to compliment Storm management on making the
music better this year. It was a change that was sorely needed,
and I do appreciate it. Having DJ Supa Sam from KUBE 93 there
last night was awesome. Keep bringing him back, please, to
do the music.
- It was wonderful seeing Si-cko try the trampoline.
It was excellent seeing Storm Fan in Comets Land win for having
the sign of the game. Storm peeps gettin fame and props! Ya
gotta love that.
- Norwester, it wasn't the Brrringys that were holding up
the baby spinach signs - it was wnbatalker and Si-cko. Wnbatalker
took her sign back to NY to use for when the Sparks come there.
They will be haunted by those babies, muhahaha.
- I guess when you're on the IR, you have to dress alike this
year. Last game, Frierson and Thompson wore matching white
shirts and black pants. Last night, their shirts didn't match,
but the color did. Blue tops and black pants. It's kinda cute.
I almost expect them to start bobbing their heads like those
guys on Saturday Night Live.
- The two-guard from the fabulous 3A state runner up Rainier
Beach Vikings has the great job of being a Storm team towel
girl this year. It was cool to see her doing her thing. She
digs the job, she said.
- Ann Donovan's family waited for her to come out of the locker
room after the game. They are also 6-foot-14. I bet they all
had to apply for federal assistance just to be able to buy
clothes. Wow.
- Nice to see the Key packed for the game!!!!
- Grethe Cammermeyer can't hit many free throws, but hey,
at least she tried.
- The Sparks were subdued. I'm not used to seeing them like
that, but I like it. Only one real thuggy thing, and that
was from Mabika. T-spork looks like that guy from Cameo. I
miss the braids. D-Nasty has incredible range for having the
type of injury she does. They can all still go to hell, subdued
or not.

Midway
through the second half, as I was waiting for that Sporks
spurt that would bring the game close (I guess it got left
behind in LA), I thought, “The Seattle Storm, kicking
LA’s @$$ every single game. LA wanted to beat us. Tried
to beat us. Couldn’t beat us. The Storm might not always
be in first place in the west, but we are right now so put
that in your pipe and smoke it, Sporks!
Gym.Rat’s Droppings:
1)
eBay whores are really ticking me off. How many autographs
do you need? And stop pushing the kids out of the way! ARGH!
2)
I got to the game 10 minutes early, bypassed a bunch of people
in line (don’t need to stand in the long line if you
don’t need to get your bag checked) and bypassed another
huge line to get a shirt (don’t need to be polite standing
in line waiting for a shirt when you can just walk by the
table and they’ll throw one at you). I came in the fountain
side of the Key and they had piles of shirts.
3)
Gym.Rat lost yet another silent auction. Sigh.
4)
I thought the Sparks were supposed to be good?
5)
People that name drop annoy me and should be shot at with
rubber bands ala the girl sitting next to me.
6)
Sam Perkins in the house
7)
Refs need to learn some consistency and shouldn’t be
afraid to dish out the flagrant fouls.
8
) Simone was the only player not to score!
9)
Watching the Storm kill the Sparks was like watching a varsity
team cream a freshman squad. I had to remind myself that it
was in fact the TWO time champion Sparks that was there. The
*healthy* 2 time champions. The team with former MVP Leslie.
That LA team that wants to beat every opponent and they couldn’t
come close to the Storm. HA! See you in the playoffs beyotch!
Gym.Rat’s Dropping Award goes to Doppler again. During
his lil skit of tossing out t-shirts with the sling shot he
fell over the ball boy “cleaning the floor” with
a bucket o’ water. Doppler got mad and ran after the
kid with the bucket, took aim, and let it fly… all over
a police officer. Um… I mean, a “police officer”.
ETA: TSporks new do is a don't. Her new 'tude is pretty craptastic.
I dunno if it's the lights but Whitmore skin color looks funky.
B-Money is kicking some b-butt!
Minnesota game was physical-aggressive. LA's game was physical-dirty.
They get away with too much! 'Course LJ and Kamila did some
power pushes themselves... even going to No Man's Land by
grabbing LL's butt while boxing out.
ETA x 2: Those "great Italy players" that the Sporks
just added... pfff. The one girl played a total of 1 minute
or so and had three fouls. Oooooo - I am so impressed.

To
borrow a line from Jackie Gleason (you younger kids might
have to ask someone who the old geezer is), HOW SWEET IT IS!
That was definitely a sweet game. Day-um, we're GOOD!
LA lost their composure about 5 minutes into the game and
never regained it. HEY LisaMort, you're not even one of the
5 best players on the planet, anymore. I've said it before
and I'll say it again, She Who Must Not Be Named's game has
slipped, alot! And, what's up with those shorts? Get
over yourself, your legs aren't that good looking. Nor,
is your game.
This wasn't just a win, this was a good, old-fashioned b**ch
slapping. Yo, Ann Meyers - LA in first and Seattle in last
- guess again! LA looked exactly like what they are: old,
tired and done. Stick a fork in them. They'll contend, but
their domination of the West is, I believe, at an end.
Isn't it great to see the rest of our team pick it up, on
those occasions when LJ doesn't score 30? Look out all you
Storm kids, we got us a real contender, here.
Greco, great minutes and few rookie mistakes. Way to go Crescenta
girl.
Lennox, OMG you are great. I loved her game, last night.
Yes, she was still outta control, at times. But, day-um she
was great.
Sheri, keep on keeping on. Great game and welcome to Seattle.
Glad to have you here.
Burse, oh baby! Love that game face. Love that game. Burse
was tentative for the first couple of minutes. But, she DID
NOT back down from the diva, not once.
Kamila, don't press - it'll come. Just relax and the shots
will fall.
Tully, ya know I love ya. She is just so damn tenacious, that
it's a joy to watch. Great game and we're so glad you
came back.
Adia, we are so glad you made the team. She is definitely
looking better, with each passing game. I will admit
it, I was worried about her after the pre-season game, not
any more. She looks stronger and faster with each game.
And, that great defense is still there.
Now for a few words about the Sporks:
TSpoon, what the hell did you do to your hair. A definitel
fashion DON'T.
Milton-Jones, can we say slow, tentative, and not very good. Maybe
you shoulda had the surgery.
Mabika, technical coming in 3, 2, 1. You've gotten to be as
bad as the rest of your Sporky teammates. Get over it.
Dixon, you still remind me of Gary Coleman's illegitimate
son.
Christi Thomas, didn't take you long to adopt the Spork attitude,
did it? Hit Tully in the face like that again and you'll be
answering to a lot of stormfans.
On a personal note, I know that I'm not a founding fan, but
I sure feel like one. This team has my heart and I do believe
that this is our year.
At one point, I was worried about how team chemistry would
do, with all the new faces. Not anymore. This team has gelled,
folks. Their gellin' like Magellan. Let's face it, last
night was just plain fun. I do believe that the 2 greatest
margins of defeat, for the Sporks, are now owned by the Storm I
just love that.
Shout out to our own jezzie and pwe, thanks for a great time.
wnbatalker, sic-ko (great finally meeting you), Socks,
Mr. Socks (great to finally meet you also), and SFiCL, great
to see all of you. Come back and see us again, real soon.
To borrow from sic-ko, Shed, and SF#: You're all BRILLIANT!
*raises a glass to you all*
Like I said kids, we got us a real, live contender here. Let's
make sure that we continue holding up our end of the bargain.
BE LOUD AND PROUD. It was great to see such a big crowd,
last night. Let's keep it going Seattle.
