We
win. Undefeated at home. Yippeee!!!
Kamila, Kamila, Kamila... I am so glad she finally got her breakout game. It
was way overdue. Game after game she is our defensive wall in the paint, taking
the blows to her body, getting the ticky tacky fouls, enduring everything under
the rim without a single complaint... Finally this very underappreciated member
of our team gets into the spotlight. You go girl! Nobody deserves it more than
you do.
The crowd was really behind Kamila. As her score reached double digits, everytime
she scored she got wild cheers and standing ovation. So what if she missed 3
of 4 free throws at the end of the game. It didn't matter.
On a day when both Janell and Sue were having an off shooting day, I am glad
Kamila found her shooting touch. We needed someone to step up alongside LJ.
Sue's mom was in the arena today and got loud applause when introduced. Too bad
Sue didn't have one of her best games today, although she made a lightning fast
drive to the lane with a quick layup. She was done scoring while Sun players
were looking around trying to figure out where the ball was.
Whalen did not suit and was not with the team. I was wondering what was up with
her, then I saw the posts here that she was really sick. I wish her speedy recovery.
Besides Kamila, Sheri is the hardest working member of our team. She kept Sales
under control most of the game, and worked like a monster on the boards.
In the second half, the referees remembered that they are supposed to give Kamila
silly fouls and quickly called two fouls on her. (She had 0 fouls in the first
half) During the first minute of the second half, our team got called for 4 fouls.
LJ got whacked several times under the rim with no fouls called. Refs in this
game needed glasses.
Betty had trouble keeping up with Katie through screens, which left Katie Douglas
with some wide open shots. Eventually the coach subbbed Adia in her place and
Adia played most of the second half.
Adia is the smartest defensive player I have ever seen. The way she cut the inbound
pass and took possession of the ball at the end of the game was absolutely priceless.
In short we won this game when we didn't play all that well. It wasn't our best
offensive game, but we controlled the score and made the defensive stops when
needed at the end.

I was wondering why I just didn't feel like
writing this report. Now I know, thanks to my fellow stormfans.
It was a Craptastic Fugly Fest. No energy. No fun. Even
the team shop item of the game was beige and fugly to boot.
Sign of the night: "I want to B Money when I grow up."
Taj McWilliams Franklin set an illegal screen just about every damn time down
the court in the second half. I know, because she did it right in front of me.
A) Holding, march the offense back 10 yards. B) YOU CANNOT MOVE YOUR DAMN FEET!!!
For all those fathers who brought their daughters, and who had to listen to me
scream at the refs about this (and you know who you are, you all turned around
and looked at me), sorry I said "damn." Kinda.
Taj needed a little meditation or Xanax or something tonight. She was testy!
She whined, whined, whined at the officials all night long, and really lost her
temper a time or two. It was great! Anne Donovan had a warm hug for her in after
the 5 line, anyway.
Katie Douglas decided to test the "pathetically crippled" Adia waters.
I swear, she should wear that brace her whole career--it's going to make people
underestimate her every time. The first two attempts, Douglas won the battle,
which gave her confidence. Too Bad and Tee Hee! Douglas couldn't take Adia on-on-one
again. Poor Katie. She looked really confused! It was lovely.
Oh, Debbie Black. Remember two years ago, she took it to that year's rookie model
Savior of the WNBA? And then last year, she pretty much had her way with an injured
S Bird. I'm sure Debbie's been wondering why Sue Bird's on the Olympic team and
she hasn't even gotten a call yet. (Probably convinced herself it's a height
issue.) Tonight's game explains it all. Sue dominated the Queen of the "Little
Blonde Mean Ones," as my friend Laura calls them. Debbie Black didn't stand
a chance--she looked like she was standing still. The beautiful thing is that
Sue figured this it out and exploited it like a savvy veteran. Yay!
How many kids can you get on the floor during the Choo Choo? Not a molecule of
hardwood was left uncovered. And long after it was done, two little kids were
lost and confused. One, a lil' girl thing all in pink, crossed under the
basket after play had resumed, and looked about to cry when she walked in front
of the Sun bench looking for her Mama. A nice SPD officer scooped her up (a la
Snort) and found her mother for her. No worms were involved. (Please see "Are
you my Mother?" I Can Read It All By Myself, publisher.)
Speaking of finding Bird Mamas, I heard that Sue's mom Nancy would be in attendance
to watch her illustrious daughter. Leighway pointed out that she is easily recognized--she
always carries spectacular handbags. Jezzie eventually found her to point her
out to me. Sorry if I was staring, Ms Bird. You are entirely fun to watch, and
behave during the games just as I would if one of my sons were playing in the
WNBA. Wait--that's not exactly right, but you know what I mean. Your enthusiasm
is refreshing and contagious. And so's your eye roll! For the record,
your girl set up the most entertaining plays tonight. What passing! Holy Moley.
Am I blind to my team's foibles? Besides Adia's first foul, which was so apparent
it was comical, and one major elbow (not called) on LJ's behalf, I could not
get over how cleanly the Storm played and how violent the Sun were. Derevjanik
(sp?) belongs in the WWE. How the (insert perjorative here) did she get away
with all that crap? The aforementioned Taj grabbed and pulled and abused. I can't
remember how many time LJ was in a bear hug. Ms UConn Jones? Major brute. Major.
OK, a brute with some finesse. To her credit, her physicality never extended
to her former teammate. She's a brute anyway. But my goodness, does she have
a magic stroke.
Mike Thibault just about had a cow when his girls decided to display their passing
prowess when down by several points with 2 minutes left on the clock. It was
comical--he was jumping up and down trying to get a player's--any player's--attention.
Our coach, however, was exceedingly unhappy all night long. Go get 'em, AD, darlin'.
Nice to see number 43 during her Week! But other than a few minutes early, there
weren't too many deep bench appearances.
