Yo!
You folks with the "Western Conference
Champions--This is the Year" and "Storm 2004
WNBA Champs" signs, what the hell is wrong with you?
Do you not have a lick of sense? That crap should not be
seeing the light of day until September 18.
Sheila Lambert reminds me so much of Semeka Randall. Remember when the planets
would align for Semeka and she'd have a great night? But she'd have at least
as many terrible nights for all that out of control play. Sheila had a good one
tonight, I'm sure for her family and friends. Having not seen her play since
high school, I have to say I was disappointed. Her play is frenetic, and not
at all what she is capable of. I would not build a team around her, at least
the way her game looked tonight, and I'd guess that Van will be looking for a
PG in 2005. She hit the floor and completely lost control of the ball at least
3 times.
Too bad Tully took that charge like a woman. It seemed like a good idea at the
time, but I'd trade a healthy Tully for that foul call. She better not be really
hurt. She flippin' owned Sheila Lambert when she was out there. Poor Sheila had
no idea what to do! My favorite Tully of the night was when she was under the
rim and kicked the ball out, RIGHT THROUGH LUCIENNE BERTHIEU'S LEGS! Hah!
LJ knows all the words to "Love Shack." I know because I was singing,
too, Blondie.
Has anyone mentioned that the refs were really bad? Even Howard Schultz was on
his feet complaining--and at one point, AD walked right out onto the Storm logo
during a TV timeout to make sure those boneheads knew she was paying attention.
I am trading in my Swoopes. No way am I gonna wear shoes named after a girl who
dresses down her post player in front of strangers. Lucienne, you did the right
thing, no matter what Miss Thang said, and she should have said so quietly in
the huddle. Sheryl was a little slow--no moves whatsoever, which led me to believe
her ankle is really bothering her. Her shot is unnaturally accurate, though.
You just know once it leaves her hands, it's money. (Sorry Betty.)
Sheryl kicked the shoe right off of a wee girl of about 8 who sat courtside.
Sheryl simply gave the kid a look--a Keep Your Damn Shoe Outta My Way look. And
a half. Wee girls's even wee-er brother found the shoe and replaced it a la Cinderella.
Lil' Bro, you rock, honey.
Question of the game: (Um, if it's winter now where you live, you are excused
from answering) Say it's the OG. Lauren Jackson makes an insane block on Sheryl
Swoopes, exactly like the two that made your heart skip a beat tonight. Does
this make you happy?
I get the impression that Houston's #22 does not like Seattle's #22, not one
little bit.
Could someone please close the back door?
Did someone recently mention Michelle Snow has the aroma of a diva? Let me offer
you some Maytag Blue with that whine. Honest, she plays like a spoiled little
girl. If her game ever gains a little maturity, she'll be a force, but those
bony fingers reaching skyward to emphasize LJ's missed free throws was bush league.
She should have fouled out. At least three times.
I must confess, I was on perve lookout the whole game. To any perverts in attendance,
don't know if you got your money's worth, but you saw a great game.
There were two fellas in their late 20s, early 30s in my region, escorting about
15 young ladies (average age, 9 years) to the game. They did a fine job of organizing
group trips to the restroom and concession stand early on. I asked--this was
the gents' first game. They were apoplectic by the last five minutes. They were
high-fiving good plays and mopping sweat from furrowed brows when things weren't
going so Stormie. The Storm infected them--I would venture that there's no way
they could display such passion for the Sonics. They looked surprised themselves.
They are converts, PTL.
In the house: Val Ackerman, jrod, Rashard Lewis, Shobe, Slick Watts, Mr and Mrs
Admin, Howard Schultz, some girl who works at the Holidae In on Dexter, jilly
and entourage, Sheddie, Karen Bryant (looking colorful and resplendent, BTW),
Bringy, jrod's mom, pwe and jezzie (I recognized them by their shirts, which
matched their eyes), me, my friend LJ (not the nekkid one), but no Sass. Hell,
Sassy, the girls need you! Has Donald Trump given you a job yet?
Such a battle. Yes it was. I wish I had just gone to the Green Club and drunk
gin for the last 11:58 of the game. Would have been better for my heart health
(and where is that bullet point on my Virginia Mason Heart Healthy Sue Bird card,
dammit? Sometimes gin is good, or at least better than the options at hand. Next
time, it's Bombay time.).
On a positive note, I believe it will be a long, long, time before the Comets
win at the Key again.

Clank, brick, clank, clank, clank, brick,
brick...
That is how the entire game went for us. It felt like we shot around 10%. We
couldn't buy a bucket if our lives dependent on it. I don't ever remember us
missing so many under the rim buckets.
LJ missed two free throws in a row. When was the last time she did that? I don't
recall.
Houston didn't have any post game. We were so dominant in the post, yet we couldn't
capitalize on it.
Sheila killed us tonight. Wasn't she recently waived from another team? Whoever
waived her ought to have her/his head examined. She made our guards, both Sue
and Betty, looked slow. She kept faking them left and right, driving to the basket
unchallenged. Tully was the only one that was able to keep up with her for a
brief time, but she had some type of injury early in the first half and didn't
come back to play again. I hope she is allright.
While Houston didn't have any post presence, their guards were dominant in the
first half. They led most of the first half. Storm was behind by 6 point when
Betty went on a scoring spree, making two treys and a bucket to pull us back
into the game. After missing all of her shots, Kamila finally made a couple of
baskets at the end of first half to put us up by 1.
Second half was no different. Houston kept penetrating with guards, while we
kept clanking and bricking... Swoopes, who was quiet with 4 points in the first
half, came alive and kept finding a defensive hole in the paint to score easy
layups. While Sheila and Sheryl were penetrating and scoring at will, we were
clanking one shot after another.
Defining moment in the game came with 1 minute left and Storm down by 4 (57-61).
Sue stole a long pass and went on a fast break to the basket. She bricked the
layup, then LJ grabbed the rebound and tried to put it back in. The ball bounced
off the rim and LJ grabbed the rebound again try to put it back again. Another
miss, and another rebound by LJ, only to brick it once again. After four rebounds
and four unsuccessfull putback attempts by LJ, the ball finally went out of bounds...
The Storm had lost its shooting touch in this game. Hopefully they find it real
soon. 1 | 3 | 4 |
