After
the drama of the last two home games, it was nice to have
a relatively relaxing game.
Each team traded baskets for the first nine minutes. With
the score tied 15-15, the Storm went on a 13 point run and
held SASS scoreless for eight minutes. The Storm never looked
back after this and took a 36-25 lead into the locker room,
enroute to a 79-51 win.
Surprisingly, the Storm took this lead while only shooting
37.9% from the floor. Fortunatly for the team, they went 6-6
from the free throw line.
Lauren (21 pts) and Sue (1 were our top scorers. Sue also
had five assists and I think she did not have any turnovers,
or maybe just one. This stat was the one Sue was most proud
of in the post game interview.
As for the bench, the question remains, is the glass half
full or half empty? Going into the game, the Storm bench had
scored only 11 points, eight of which came from Izzy, now
a starter, against LA.
Against Houston, the bench scored only three points, all on
free throws.
Against San Antonio late into the second half, the bench had
only managed six points.
With a 24 point lead, Anne pulled the starters, and the bench
responded by going on a 10-6 run to finish the game.
We are going to need the bench to step up like this when we
are in the close games as well. Their production will be all
the more critical as we get into this long June road schedule.

Notes
Where's our regular PA guy? For the second time this year,
the Sonics public address anouncer was at the mike.
He totally blew it when Betty and SASS' Chantelle Anderson
crashed into the Storm bench chasing the ball. While waiting
for the call, the PA announced that the foul was on Zara,
who was nowhere near the play. This got the crowd almost in
unison to respond, "What?" He then corrected himself
as Betty went to the free throw line. I know WNBA officials
can be lousy at times, but not even they would miss a call
to this degree.
Also, did I hear him announce Alicia Thompson as "Michelle"
Thompson when she first went into the game?
As long as we are on the subject of Chelle, on her video introduction,
she said she would like Halle Berry to play her in her life
story. Chelle said her favorite all-time movie is The Godfather,
same as mine.
What happened to Lauren's Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oyi, Oyi,
Oyi introductions?
It may have take three days, but I think I'm finally Folklifed
out. I mostly go for the music and got to hear some great
reggae, latin and world music. I also saw Lauren's mom walking
around Folklife.
At the fan suggestion booth, I asked if there is a way the
team could always tie in at least one game with Folklife weekend.
I was told that the league dictates the schedule, and that
the Storm could not impact when the team played.
I know Folklife causes traffic congestion (hey, I had to park
up on 7th and Blanchard for both games and the STH event),
still, this all made for a great holiday weekend experience.
The totally cool award goes to San Antonio Coach Dan Hughes
who was wearing a necktie embossed with a picture of Seattle
native son, Jimmi Hendrix.
